Lock a company's books through a month end

Understand the separate lock permission, recorded attempt, partial outcomes, and confirmation in Juan.

In this guide

A period lock updates account lock dates in Juan. It changes real books, unlike the read-only closing review. An admin with company access performs it from the company's Closing page.

Before using the lock

Locking must have been enabled separately for the company by the operator. No ordinary settings page turns that switch on. The company must be active and cannot have automatic sending enabled at the same time.

The date must be the end of a month already ended in Manila. No other lock can be in flight, and an unresolved hold from an earlier attempt must be addressed first.

Start an attempt

  1. Check the company and choose the intended month end on Closing.
  2. Open the lock confirmation.
  3. Read what the dialog says about monitoring and unsigned periods.
  4. Confirm only when the date and real-books action are intended.
  5. Follow the attempt until the page reports its outcome.

Monitoring does not have to be enabled, and a period does not have to be signed off. The dialog records those concerns as information. It does not create a sign-off on your behalf.

What completion means

Mendiola reads the accounts, updates those needing the lock, and reads them back. Completion means every account was confirmed locked through the chosen date or later. Accounts already locked far enough do not need another write.

Nothing automatically unlocks earlier accounts if a later account fails. A stopped attempt can therefore leave the chart partly locked.

If an attempt stops

Read the reason and progress. Check a connection or account problem in Juan before trying again. Lock again continues toward the chosen date, skipping already-satisfied accounts and checking uncertain outcomes rather than blindly repeating a write.

If the page reports a hold because an account changed unexpectedly, contact the operator. The underlying account needs inspection before the hold is released. Do not treat it as a normal retry prompt.

Turning the company's lock switch off stops further account requests at the next check; it does not lift locks already set. Archiving also prevents the attempt from continuing its writes.

After locking

The page reports the verified date, but Mendiola does not continuously watch whether someone later changes locks in Juan. A lock attempt is retained as company history. Correcting or lifting a lock is a separate accounting action in Juan, not an automatic rollback here.
